Two visiting ploughmen took home the champion and runner-up prizes when Kintyre Agricultural Society held its annual ploughing match last weekend.
A good dry week saw the competition go ahead without any problem at an excellent field at West Moy last Saturday.
This was in no small part a result of the hard work of the society’s president and vice president, Callum MacPhail and Iain McKendrick, and their team of directors, ably assisted by James Young, Michael Mayberry and Fraser MacPhail in the days leading up to the competition.
A fantastic 30 entries had been received, with 29 competitors taking part. Local men Peter Littleson and Johnny Cameron were joined by John Walker and Jamie Dick from Falkirk to judge the ploughmen’s work.
After a keenly contested competition, Jock Sievewright from Blairgowrie was crowned overall winner, with Robert McKechnie from Larkhall a close second.
Kintyre Agricultural Society thanks the following: the Young family for hosting the ploughing match; the judges for doing a great job in getting through the large entry to judge the competition; all competitors, some of whom had travelled a long way to take part; all sponsors and everyone who donated prize money and Carole Armour for catering.
