Archaeologist Ian McHardy will be leading a visit and talk on the ‘Lost Stone Circles of Lewis’, on Saturday, May 4.
In his talk, starting at 11.30am at the Kinloch Community Hub, Balallan, on the Isle of Lewis, Ian
will describe what seems to be a recently-discovered stone circle upon Gallow Hill, near Stornoway.
He will then take a look at the distribution of stone circles over the whole island, including many
other little-known examples, in the hope that this will further our understanding of these enigmatic
monuments.
After his talk and a bite to eat, Ian will lead a visit by cars and walking to stone circle remains in the
Shieldinish area of South Lochs. It will be relatively easy walking, including some gentle climbing, of about three
miles. Stout footwear is recommended. The return to Balallan will be around 4pm.
There are no restriction on numbers and the event costs £10 (Islands Book Trust members free).
