Planting for the future in the Hebrides

Children from Shawbost Primary School on the Isle of Lewis joined the ranks of other local schools to plant their individual trees in their school grounds.

Schools embark on Rotary tree planting project

The Trees for Primary Schools project is a contribution to Rotary International’s seventh area of focus – supporting the environment – and forms part of the Croft Woodlands project to plant native trees on croft land across the Western Isles.

Tribute to Dr Donald Taylor

Dr Taylor, a Glasgow University graduate, was a pharmacist with ICI before moving to Stornoway to work as a chemist and later establishing Back Pharmacy. 

Award number six for Stornoway energy project

The social enterprise, which runs the UK’s biggest community-owned wind farm at Beinn Ghrideag just outside Stornoway, was named ‘Best Community Energy Project’ at the online event which was hosted from the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness.
