The plan is to build a forest road connecting up three timber producing forests on Morvern, which will then take the timber to a floating pier where the timber can be loaded onto ships.
MCW now needs to raise the remaining £1.7 million by October for
the project to be successful. The group has produced a short film to launch its fundraising appeal.
Once installed, the scheme is expected to have a 1.6MW capacity and to generate approximately 4,269,000 kWh each year – enough to power over 1000 homes. It will take approximately 14 months to build and is expected to operate for at least 50 years.
Morvern is a fragile community with an ageing population of around 350 and a falling school roll. There is currently no-one living on the Killundine Estate and it supports no full-time local employment.
