The Isle of Eigg, 12 miles off the Scottish mainland, is famous for its community land ownership and its unique renewable energy system powered by wind, water and sun. The island now has Scotland’s first co-operative brewery.
The total population of the Highland Council islands is 10,349 of which 10,008 live on Skye. Apart from Skye the most populous islands are Raasay (161), Eigg (83), Muck (27), Rum (22) and Canna (12).
Eigg’s community is working with the design team behind the An Crubh Community Hub on Skye and the new Iona Village Hall, led by Architects WT Architecture which is known for its award-winning work in the Highlands and Islands.
