New lights will help, but one lane of the A83 through Glen Croe looks like to remain shut for most of 2021.
But only when weather and hillside conditions allow, says BEAR Scotland.
‘Teams are continuing mitigation work at the Rest, including developing the next debris catch-pit next to the A83 roadside.’
The £280,000 project will see over a kilometre of improvements completed south of the Laggan Swing Bridge, creating a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
Investigation work at the site will begin today, Monday, February 22 and will take approximately four weeks to complete.
‘Initial assessments indicate that almost 700 tonnes of debris has been collectively prevented from inundating the A83 following the recent significant heavy rainfall’
A Met Office yellow weather warning for heavy rain is in place from 6am today until 9pm. A second is also in place between noon on Saturday until 3am Sunday morning.
Daily opening hours of the A83 Rest and Be Thankful have been extended by a further 30 minutes this week.
‘At the moment, there is 100,000 tons on the move on the hill.’
