Oban stylist Allan Mckechnie has been shortlisted for a top Scottish Hairdresser of the Year title.

The winner of the HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards 2022, sponsored by Schwarzkopf
Professional, will be announced at a black-tie event in London on November 28.

Now in their 38th year, the awards run by Hairdressers Journal (HJ) are an annual celebration of hairdressing excellence and will be judged anonymously by more than 100 leading hairdressers

Allan, who has owned Rutherfords in Stevenson Street for the past decade, was named as one of only six finalists in his region after submitting four photographs showcasing his skill and creativity. If he wins, he will join ranks with previous title winners – Trevor Sorbie, Nicky Clarke, John Frieda, Charles Worthington and Umberto Giannini.

He now has to send in four more photographs for the final round of judging in September.

‘This is such a proud moment for me. To see my name alongside those shortlisted is mind-blowing. This awards night is like the hairdressing ‘Oscars’. I’d love to bring the trophy back to Oban and hope the judges will recognise the love and hard work that has gone into my collection,’ said Allan.
