We’re in August already, can you believe it? There’s lots to look forward to this month, not least the Oban Games on the 25th, which always brings a real buzz to the town. We also have three cruise ships calling this month on the 9th, 18th and 25th, more details of these can be found nearer the time on the Love Oban Local Facebook page. Don’t forget Oban Town Diary Facebook page as well to keep up to date with what’s happening in the town.

We have lots to look forward to this month with The View hosting Declan Welsh and the Decadent West – what a fantastic name for a band – as well as twice weekly ceilidhs and local bands at the weekends. The Oban Inn, Markie Dans and The Claredon are also great for having music at the weekends, every reason to get your dancing shoes on.

August and September also have some fantastic craft and art workshops in The Rockfield Centre with everything from paper bouquet workshops to spoon carving and Celtic Manuscript Design. If you have an artistic bone in your body then The Rockfield Centre has something for you, along with the chance for a wee blether with Shinty Memories, Creative Walking, Rockfield Knit or Heritage Blethers.

For the more outdoorsy of you, we also have ITERA Expedition Race beginning and ending in Oban, with the Sea Kayak Race leaving from the sailing club.

We really do have something for everyone this month, and in my humble opinion.

The photograph on my last column, a few weeks ago, was of the lovely Lily Shanks, a well kent Oban face, this week it’s one of my favourite Quiz Masters.
