Lochaber Rugby Club had a fantastic turnout at their Girls Come and Try Day at Banavie on Sunday July 3.

Thirty two girls attended including 17 new girls, most of whom had never played rugby before.

There were 11 new P3–P7 girls and six new S1–S3 girls, who joined in with 15 of the club’s regular girls for the session. Everyone had an enjoyable time, with the new girls displaying good skills during the practice drills and games. The rugby club thanks everyone who came along on the day.

The girls event was followed by the annual awards presentations for the 2021-22 season, which was held in the clubhouse and was well attended by mini and youth players and their parents. The rugby club thanks everyone who contributed food and snacks for the buffet and who helped make it a such an enjoyable afternoon.

Mini and youth rugby coaching is now finished for the summer holidays. It starts back again on Saturday August 20 at the rugby club in Banavie. For P3-U14s and U16 Girls, times are 9.30am to 11am and for U16 Boys and U18 Boys times are 11.30am to 1pm.

The new season, which starts in late August, promises to be an exciting one for junior rugby in Lochaber. Mini Rugby girls and boys will continue to be involved in Dalriada festivals with Argyll rugby clubs with the U14 Girls and U14 Boys teams involved in youth rugby festivals and skills days across the Caledonia North Region. U16 Boys will be participating in the Caledonia Regional League and cup competitions involving teams from Caledonia North and Caledonia Midlands.
