Last year, the Lochaber Times reported on Acharacle school boy Miguel Reis Forrester’s ambitions to take his passion for gymnastics to the next level, writes Nic Goddard.

Unfortunately, competitions were on hold during the Covid 19 pandemic but that didn’t stop Miguel, aged 12, from continuing his training with trips to Dumbarton three times a week.

So as soon as competitions opened back up again in November 2021, Miguel was ready for action, getting through the Regional Challenge Cup Qualifier in May and taking the title of Scottish Champion in his age category at the Scottish National Tumbling Championships on June 12.

In September, Miguel will be proudly representing Scotland at the Inter Regional Challenge Cup Finals 2022 in Birmingham.

Proud dad Jeff told the Lochaber Times: ‘I can’t wait to see him competing as part of the Scottish team. He works so hard, training every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. He will now be travelling to train with the rest of the Scottish team as well as continuing to train with his club in Dumbarton.’

For Miguel, tumbling, flips and somersalts are great fun. ‘I feel really happy when I’m doing gymnastics, it’s like I’m flying,’ he told the Lochaber Times.
