Members of the Fort William Photographic Society were able to ‘Travel Back in Time’ recently to revisit Lochaber places of the past as photographed by Photographer WS Thomson some 70 to 80 years ago.

In a lecture, Belgian author and photographer Estelle Slegers Helsen, who is preparing a book on his work, researched many of his pictures to identify the location in which they were taken and attempt to reproduce them exactly.

She has also been researching his life and activities when he lived in the area before leaving in the early 1960s.

She shared her ‘finds’ with society members at one of their recent meetings in the Salvation Army Hall in Fort William, entrancing them with her descriptions and pictures alongside the originals.
