The closure of Budhmor care home in Portree, Skye, has been delayed by a month.

NHS Highland held a further meeting with families of residents, CrossReach, The Highland Council and the Care Inspectorate last week to give an update on the current situation.

CrossReach confirmed it has delayed the closure until the end of July 2022 while a Care Inspectorate report is carried out.

There was an opportunity for relatives to express their understandable concerns about the current position and a commitment from NHS Highland and the Highland Council to work with the community to provide appropriate health and care services for Skye.

Pam Dudek, NHS Highland chief executive, said she was ‘sorry’ about their experience and acknowledged there would be learning from recent and past events.

An NHS Highland spokesperson added: ‘We will provide further updates to the residents, their families and staff in due course.’

NHS Highland was informed by CrossReach in March that Budhmor care home in Portree was to close.

CrossReach had originally intended shutting the home at the end of this month after what it said had been strenuous efforts to map a way forward for Budhmor were unsuccessful.
