The 2022 Macaulay National Six-a-Side Shinty Tournament, due to take place at Mossfield this Sunday, June 19, has been cancelled following a lack of entries.

The popular primary school shinty competition has been running for almost 40 years and has only been cancelled in the past due to Covid or inclement weather.

This year’s cancellation has come as a great disappointment to organisers who believe schools are still finding their way out of the pandemic which is having an effect on many junior events.

Macaulay Association secretary David Hamilton said: ‘This competition has always been so popular with the young players. Hopefully things will pick up again and the Macaulay Sixes can go ahead in the second week of June next year.’
