A busy month at Dalmally Golf Club, both on the golf and social front.
Last Friday saw the welcome return of the club’s quiz night, this year with a twist, quiz and curry.

Fifteen teams battled it out, brains and memory taxed by quizmaster Martin O’Keeffe and scorer Catriona O’Keeffe. Lochawe’s Mr Curry, Phil Ashby served up delicious and authentic curries at half time.

Top team were the L.A. Confidentals, closely followed in second place with The Outsiders, all relative newcomers to Dalmally and the club, with quiz team Aguilera in third place.

And at last with a return to open competitions, the club was delighted to have 50, as it turned out, hardy souls, to play in its Seniors Open last Wednesday.

Golf in Argyll can always be a bit of a lottery and so it proved with the weather doing its best to make playing conditions challenging to say the least.
Despite the weather the course held up well and remained playable but tough throughout the day. The Ladies and Gents competitions were both held over 18 holes, Stableford.

The heavy, sometimes, torrential showers interspersed with some short sunny intervals meant that it was unlikely that high scoring would be the order of the day.
Saying that, visitor Dave Bird came in with an impressive 40 points to take the Men’s Trophy, followed closely by home player John Stone on 38 points and in third place, Mark Grant, a regular visitor and friend from Taynuilt on 37 points.

On the ladies front, visitor Janice Gosden from Dragon’s Tooth GC posted an impressive 32 points to take first place, with Dalmally members Linda Gibson in second place with 27 points and Lesley Stone close behind in third with 25 points.

As usual the club’s catering team under the direction of Maggie Ashby, pulled out all the stops with both excellent breakfast and then all-day refreshments for all the players.

Players commented that the legendary Dalmally baking exceeded their expectations.
Other recent competitions include the Ladies’ Broughton Trophy held last Sunday. The competition was a one round foursome. Congratulations to winners Lesley Stone and Ishbel Livingstone.

The Seniors Open is the first in a series of Dalmally Opens. Coming up next is the ever popular Three Man Team Stableford

Open on Sunday 3rd July. Teams can enter via the Scottish Golf App, the club website or contact Match Secretary David MacGregor or phone 07552 655651.
