A Kinlochleven man has been recognised with an award marking his commitment to life in the village, writes Iain Ferguson.

Matthew Prosser was named Villager of the Year by members of the Kinlochleven Past and Present Group which ran a poll to decide who should get the award, now in its second year.

Matthew was instrumental in the formation of the Island Park Community Field Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation which has led to the transformation of the abandoned grass area which was once at the heart of the community.

It now has its own industrial mower, is cut regularly and was home to a fireworks display last November, with more events planned for this year.

His immense enthusiasm and the effort he puts in to seeing things through from the initial idea to completion were appreciated by everyone who cast their vote.

Maureen Fyfe of the Past and Present Group said: ‘He is such a worthy winner as he does so much for the village.’

Matthew said: ‘I am deeply honoured by this, but there are many more people who do a lot in making these events happen and thanks go to them for the huge effort they make in organising and being there on the day.

‘Thank you also to everyone who voted for me and who support village events. I really appreciate it.’
