Fort William-based singer-songwriter Keir Gibson is back with his first new release in two years.

Nothing Alike, out Thursday May 19, showcases Keir’s signature brand of alternative pop with Keir firmly in the driving seat, having recorded and produced the track himself at home in the Highlands.

The up-and-coming artist’s soulful voice and thoughtful lyrics have been played on BBC Radio 1 and he has been earmarked by The Scottish Sun as ‘Scotland’s next big breakthrough talent’. He has performed at Edinburgh’s famous Hogmanay Street Party to a 5,000 strong audience.

After two years of focusing on writing new material and getting into recording and production, Keir, aged 21, is continuing to craft a bittersweet indie-pop soundscape that has shades of Gracie Abrams, Finneas and Aimee Vant to it.

The emotive Nothing Alike depicts a relationship struggling to get off the ground. The single is about two people finding it hard to relate to each other and trying to find mutual understanding in the relationship.

Keir Gibson said: ‘I’ve learnt a lot in the last two years about writing, what feels natural to me, recording and production and how to bring my artistic ideas to life. I’ve been exploring what sonic world I want my music to live in and how it’s framed. How it comes across to people is so important to me.

‘I finally feel ready to share some of what I’ve been working on. It’s nerve-wracking but really exciting. It feels more personal this time around because I’ve worked on the material for so long by myself. I hope people can connect with the track.

‘Nothing Alike is about two people coming to terms with the fact they are polar opposites of each other. They’re always trying to find any slight common ground that they might share to help them believe they are not so different.’

Keir penned the single with his friend Joey Knight in a day and recorded himself on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukulele, piano and electric bass. The song was mixed by Grammy award winner Dan Grech.

Nothing Alike will be available to stream on all major digital platforms.
