In February, the Lochaber Times reported the local winning entries in the Rotary Young Writer and Young Photographer competitions which then went forward to the district heat.

The Rotary District 1230 covers the West of Scotland from Stranraer to Lochaber, including Glasgow.

Now these West Highland entries have had further success and three have won their district heats and will now go forward to the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland final to be held in May/June.

Under the theme Colours of Nature – Young Photographers, Lexi Duncan and Ellis John MacConnachie, both from Ardnamurchan High School, won the intermediate and senior competitions respectively.

Sìne Grant from Lochaber High School won intermediate Young Writer competition, with her essay Environment – the Last One.

Lochaber Rotary president Simon Hardiman said: ‘Winning both the Lochaber heat and then the district stage is certainly impressive and we wish our young folk well in the final. They are a credit to their families, their schools and Lochaber.’
