Four Oban Otters travelled to Glasgow at the weekend to compete in the West District Short Course Championships.
Club captain Andrew Boyle, Lily Robinson, Joel Robinson and Rachel Carré came away with impressive gains in personal best times and valuable experience of performing in a high level competition.
The championships were held at Tollcross, an international venue with 10 lanes and a separate warm up pool. A live stream was broadcast from the venue as a result of restrictions on spectators.
On Saturday morning, Rachel and Joel both swam a personal best in the 50 metres butterfly, followed by Andrew Boyle holding his entry time. Joel swam another personal best in the afternoon, taking a mighty 2.71 seconds from his 50m backstroke time.
Sunday saw the juniors in the pool and Lily Robinson winning her three heats and slashing seconds from her personal best times in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. Lily finished high up in the rankings for all three races for her age group.
Head coach Shannon McCuish said: ‘Well done to Andrew, Rachel, Joel and Lily for competing this weekend.
‘All swimmers were amazing and some even got personal bests. Lily was by herself competing for the juniors on Sunday but like the commentator said ‘storming Lily’ was there, winning three out of three races.
‘Competing in competitions such as these allows the swimmers to see why we put in all the effort at training.’
