Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Elect Her saw more than 70 women register for an online workshop last week aimed at informing and encouraging women in the Western Isles to stand in the upcoming Local Government elections in May 2022.

The online workshop involved representatives from Elect Her – formerly known as The Parliament Project – which is an organisation working to motivate, support and equip women to stand for political office, present to provide advice and answer questions.

Chief Executive of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Malcolm Burr, said the workshop, was a ‘fantastic opportunity’ for women who may be considering standing in their ward to learn more about the work of the council, the support which is available to councillors and to hear about the experiences of former female councillors in the Western Isles.
