Following The Oban Times’ report on Oban Camanachd’s annual general meeting (AGM), which was held on Friday December 3 2021, reader Iain MacIntyre submitted this photograph which shows those in attendance at the club’s AGM in 1960.

Iain told The Oban Times: ‘The meeting was held in the Columba Hotel and noticeably, compared to today’s club committees, there are 18 officials present.

‘Having had a life time association with Oban Camanachd, I can confirm the committee members in the photograph were all actively involved in the club. They are: back row, Iain MacIntyre, ‘Swallie’; Hugh MacLean, ‘Toots’; Ian Donn, Palace Hotel; David Buchanan, The Oban Times; Colin Logan; Jackie MacInnes; Davie Brogan; Alistair Ferguson; Mickey McCuish; Billy Craven; Donnie MacVicar; unknown, and Robert Galbraith.

‘Second row, Robert Gilfillan; Ivor Clark; Alan Hoey; Ewan Campbell, ‘Hippie’ and unknown.

‘Third row, Alistair MacArthur ‘Cally’; John Mac Neil; unknown; Donald Boyd; Joe Black, ‘Marconi’; unknown; Archie Gillespie, Columba Hotel.

‘Fourth row, Jim Felgate; Alistair MacLean; Duncan Cameron, chemist; Willie Currie, former Provost; Robert Donn; James Allan ‘Spiv’; Bertie MacKay; Alex Campbell, Coal Righ; Baldy Stewart and Willie MacKay, Atholl Hotel.

‘Front row, Dougie Boyd; Grigor Currie; Alex MacTaggart; John MacInnes; Alistair Stewart, Pennyfuir Farm; Eric Mouat, Post Office, and Angus Robertson.

‘My life-long attraction to the game of shinty and to Oban itself, despite living away from the town for 38 years, is in no small way due to the support and encouragement shown to me by the committee members listed, who were without exception all gentlemen who had a great pride in our game and its place in our community.

‘I would be happy if those marked as ‘unknown’ were identified and advised to me. People can contact me on 01631 562148.’
