Banavie Primary School stole the show at this year’s Lochaber Primaries Cross Country Running Championships.

They claimed the Samuel and Partner’s overall shield with first, second and fourth place finishes in boys’ and girls’ events.

The two bronze medals were taken by Caol Primary School to give them second place in the team event ahead of Spean Bridge primary.

Fastest time of the day was posted by Aaron Tresidder from Banavie Primary School. Primary six pupil Aaron recorded the second fastest time on the championship course at Leanachan Forest, Torlundy, beaten only by Sorley Swabey’s time from 2018.

In second place was Freddie Smith, also from Banavie, with Angus Riddle from Caol Primary School taking the final place on the boys’ podium.

First in the girls’ standings and the fourth fastest overall was Lily Cant, Banavie Primary School, who beat the previous course record by 27 seconds. Lily is in P5 so it will be fascinating to see just how far she’ll be able to push the record over the next two years if she keeps training as hard. Katie Pescod, Banavie, was second in another impressive time with third spot taken by Isla Ross, Caol.

Thanks go to all the participants, parents and staff who went along to support the event and to help on the day and Lochaber Active Schools team which organised this year’s event.
