Ullapool arts charity An Talla Solais reached its initial target of £10,000 within the first week of its crowdfunding campaign to secure its future, with ‘an incredible outpouring of support and encouragement’ from the community.
‘The first £10,000 will be spent on renovating their Market Street offices to create a multi-purpose community arts hub in Ullapool,’ explained An Talla Solais’ communications coordinator Iseabal Hendry.
‘This will encompass both long- and short-term studios, ceramics facility, arts-library and dedicated community room for workshops and events. The Market Street building needs significant renovation to be used in this way, and An Talla Solais are excited to have secured the funds to make this happen. The incredible show of support from the Highland community has also allowed the charity to dream a little bigger.
‘Over the years An Talla Solais’ activities have taken place from multiple spaces – their gallery, studios and office buildings. Similarly their Dolphin Arts group, which works with people living with Dementia in Ullapool, has worked from several different locations over the years.
‘The charity has been fortunate enough to have the support of different venues to make this all possible, but with the recent loss of its gallery members now need to think outside of the box. In order to secure a stand alone gallery in the future – they need to go further.
‘An Talla Solais’ full target of £20,000 would bring it closer to creating a dedicated space for exhibitions: a stand alone gallery for world-class, contemporary art right here in the Scottish Highlands. Alongside creating a creative community hub on Market Street, the charity wants to harness the creative ideas that have been suggested over the course of our campaign and go further to securing the future of arts in Ullapool.’
