Both mens and ladies 1st XV fixtures were called off due to the weather last weekend but the Under 14s got their first home fixture of the season played.

Ardrossan Accies were the visitors and playing on a great playing surface Oban were determined to improve on their last two outings.

From the outset the hosts played a fast abrasive style of rugby, dominating the tackle and ruck areas led by man of match Scott Macphee. This enabled the backs to get over the gain line time and again ensuring regular tries.

The coaches were particularly pleased with the improvement in the rucking and support play which the players have been working on at training.

Tries were scored by Hamish Macintyre (5), Rufus Hughes (3), Donald MacCormick (3), Joe Corns (2), Dougie Brown (1).

Tries at this level are three points, conversions one point.

The coaches would also like to make a special mention of three Oban players that played for Ardrossan. Connor Maclean played very well at nine behind a beaten pack, Harrison Felgate proved a thorn in Oban’s side making some darting runs and Alex Gregory set up one the opposition tries with a nice show inside before passing outside for a score in the corner.

Overall a very positive performance but there is still plenty of room for improvement in this team.

This Saturday, November 6, the Men’s 1st XV are away to Clydebank with a 3pm kick-off agreed by both sides.
