After the disappointment of a succession of recent missed cuts, there were positive signs for Oban’s Robert MacIntyre on his return to competitive action at the Estrella Damm Andalucia Masters at the weekend.

Played over the famously difficult Valderrama course, scoring was always going to be high and Bob faced an anxious wait on Friday before it was confirmed that his +5 total would see him through to the weekend right on the cut line.

The fact that only 11 players finished under par at the end of the tournament shows just how tough the course was.

The Oban star can be particularly pleased with his showing over the final two days where, had it not been for an ugly triple bogey seven late on Sunday, he would have played par golf. He eventually finished in 53rd place, but getting four competitive rounds under his belt again is a significant step forward after his recent dip in form.

With Bob not on the entry list for this week’s Mallorca Open, there are only two more European Tour events for him to build on this performance before the season ending DP Tour Championship in Dubai in mid November. He currently lies 16th in the Race To Dubai.
