St Columba’s RC Primary School at Caol has asked us to clarify part of our story last week about the lack of any new school planned to cope with the expected influx of youngsters from the major new housing development on the Blar Mhor on the outskirts of Fort William (No new school on horizon yet for Blar Mhor housing kids, council hears).

While some school rolls in the local area were said to be at 90 per cent capacity, St Columba’s has asked us to make clear this does not include St Columba’s.

Chairperson of St Columba’s parent council, Claire McIntosh, told the Lochaber Times: ‘Our numbers are very low and we would eagerly welcome lots of new children. Unfortunately our school always gets forgot about as we share a campus with Caol primary and everyone presumes it’s all one school, which is not the case. It is two separate schools.

‘I would be very grateful if you could maybe correct this and help put our wee school on the map.’

We are happy to do so.
