The weekend saw another great spectator turnout for the Lochaber U18 fixture against Waysiders Drumpellier RFC.
Lochaber felt strong coming into the game after their 32-5 away win against Annan the previous weekend.
Within the opening stages, it was evident Wayside Drumpellier were a strong, well- drilled team and they used their larger pack to dominate the first half and score the first three tries which they were unable to convert.
Lochaber soaked up most of the pressure and came into their own in the latter stages of the first half when a good piece of play resulted in front row player Josh Mackay driving over for his team’s first try. Fergus MacIntyre converted to close the gap to 15 – 7 at the break.
Lochaber showed great spirit and dominated lengthy spells of the second half but struggled to convert their opportunities into points.
Waysiders did manage to capitalise from a penalty kick and added three points to their total leaving a final winning score of 18-7 to Waysiders Drumpellier.
Lochaber U18’s continue to show improvements to aspects of their play and will take lessons learned from this game into training.
They play Carrick this weekend.
