Carpet bowlers from Connel and North Connel joined their outdoor contemporaries at the weekend for the playing of the annual Macnab Trophy.

This year’s tournament had been scheduled to take place at one of the indoor venues but members of all clubs decided that, in light of the ongoing Covid situation, the Dalriach Road green would be more suitable.

Played in memory of the late Alasdair Macnab, who enjoyed both forms of the game, this year’s competition enjoyed a good turnout with two pools battling it out in a Rinks (four players) format. The winners of each group went head to head in a final while the group runners-up played off in the ‘Wine Run’.

Winning overall was the rink of Anne Stewart, Colin Carmichael, Janet Campbell and Roddy MacLeod who beat Semple Barrie, Peter MacKinnon, Jim Gunn and Kirsty Gargan in an entertaining final.

Wine Run winners, from left, Malcolm Scott, Ian McCuish, Iain Boyd and Marie Park.

The team of Iain Boyd, Ian McCuish, Malcolm Scott and Marie Park collected a miniature bottle of wine each for their efforts in the play-off.
