A Fort William baby bank has been recognised for its immense support to the community, writes Ribh O’Neill.
The work of Misty Glen was acknowledged by Little Village, a British baby bank charity.
Whilst Little Village predominantly works to support families in London, it has an interactive map on its website which lists all official baby banks across Britain, to which Misty Glen has recently been added.
A founder of Misty Glen said: ‘Being on the UK baby bank map is a great step for us. It means we are recognised and welcoming new families who need our support.’
Whilst Misty Glen was only established in May 2020, it has already helped support many local families by providing necessary items including clothing and toys.
During the pandemic, the founders of Misty Glen noticed many families across
Lochaber were finding themselves in financial difficulty which meant they could not afford essential items.
Being on the Little Village map means even more families and supporters will be able to learn about Misty Glen. As well as being an extremely important support network within the West Highlands, the baby bank means more clothes and toys are being recycled.
The baby bank service is free and anonymous and mostly carried out through their Facebook page. Families can also message the team with direct requests.
