Last Sunday’s Moto3 race at a sunny and warm Spielberg saw Oban’s John McPhee work his way through the field to end the Austrian Grand Prix in seventh place.
A good start for John saw him hold onto his 14th place on the opening lap, before he started to make his way up the order.
Holding station inside the top ten, he worked with his team-mate in closing the gap to join the leaders on lap 14.
After trading places with Binder several times, John ultimately found himself adrift of the riders ahead and ended up seventh. He moves to 13th in the world championship with 49 points.
The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing squad will now enjoy a short rest before heading to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, August 27 to August 29, John’s home race.
The second half of the 2021 Moto3 season kicked off on Sunday August 8 at a damp Spielberg. After taking a gamble on slick tyres, due to the appearance of a dry line in places, John ended the Styrian Grand Prix in 13th.
Echoing his team-mate with slicks tyres on his Moto3 machine, John lost positions off the line, finding himself 19th after contact on the opening lap after starting 11th. Despite damage to his bike, the Scot was able to hold his place on the track, before starting to increase his pace at the halfway point.
Battling hard to make his way through the field, John started claiming places in the closing stages and crossed the line inside the points in 13th position.
