Gillian McCannon has been appointed the chairperson of the Western Isles NHS board after serving as the interim chairpeson since October last year.

The appointment, which spans a four-year term, was announced by the new cabinet secretary for health and social care, Humza Yousaf MSP.

Gillian has more than 40 years of experience working within the NHS, including as a registered nurse holding the position of senior nurse. Latterly, Gillian has served as an academic teaching fellow for undergraduate and post graduate nurse education at the Western Isles Campus for the University of Stirling.

A spokesperson for Western Isles NHS said: ‘Gillian is delighted to take up the role of chair on Western Isles NHS Board, bringing to the board a wealth of experience and knowledge of the NHS. She has strong leadership skills that will support the strategic development of the board and help shape and deliver the health care services for NHS Western Isles.’

NHS Western Isles is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 26,950 people living in the Western Isles, and provides a comprehensive range of acute, mental health, primary and community services.
