Breathe well to live well!
Can you take five minutes in your day to become aware of your breath and breathe more deeply?
Shallow breathing can exacerbate feelings of anxiety.
There are two elements to our nervous system: the sympathetic nervous system that puts your body into fight and flight response. It puts us into overdrive and releases adrenaline. This system is triggered by shallow breathing which then promotes feelings of anxiety.
The second system is our parasympathetic nervous system. This is the rest and digest part , which has a calming effect on us and is triggered by breathing more deeply. This promotes better digestion and can improve our heart function.
Try to add this into your day; just for five minutes. Think about how you are sitting. Make sure you are comfortable but also that you can expand your chest and breathe easily. It’s a great way to improve your health and can also be used at any moments of stress you may have during your day.
