Royal British Legion Scotland stalwarts John and Jean Alexander have stepped down from chairman and secretary roles after a combined 24 years serving the Easdale branch.

The couple were presented with gifts and thanks when members met at Clachan Seil’s Tigh an Truish inn on June 19. It was the branch’s first meeting in 18 months because of Covid.

Mr Alexander has served as chairman for 11 years and wife Jean has been secretary for 13 years.

Ron Hetherington is now chairman after being given special permission from RBLS’s national board of trustees to become the first non-veteran to take on the lead role. Area chairman Mick Connor was at this month’s meeting to attend the historic occasion. Squadron Leader Lorraine Reynolds was also voted in as the Easdale branch’s new secretary.
