Robert Reid, aged 83, of 10 Powell Place, Connel, was fined £500 with a £20 victim surcharge and disqualified from driving for 12 months at Oban Sheriff Court last week.

Reid, who was not present in court, had pleaded guilty to drink-driving on November 14 last year on the A828 between his home and Benderloch. He had an alcohol reading of 139 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood; the limit in Scotland is 50.

His defence agent said that Reid had no intention of driving in the future.
