A former stage manager is turning the spotlight on meditation to help people find a calmer path and more joy in their lives.

Mum-of-four Emma Grant, who has a theatrical background and moved from tiny Coll to Taynuilt five years ago, set up her Heartfelt Change business just before Covid and has been running one-to-one sessions, as well as mindfulness and stress management courses online, plus livestreams reaching a worldwide audience.

Earlier this month she launched a new twice-weekly meditation session on Zoom to encourage even more people to improve their mental health and shine their light.

Therapist Emma’s livestreams on Facebook already attract a global audience from all over Scotland, down to England and as far as Thailand and America.

‘I trained as a stage manager to hold a space for stories to be told and for people to shine their own light, be the best they can be and produce lovely theatre. In a way, what I’m doing now is a continuation of that.

‘My own childhood was chaotic, but  I see that now as a blessing of lessons. Because of that experience and because I was helped to walk out of that particular journey by my own teacher I’m a safe pair of hands to support those who are struggling in their own lives for many different reasons or on different levels,’ said Emma.

Covid has definitely heightened people’s anxieties, however those anxieties were probably already there, but now more than ever there is a need for people to take a moment for themselves, says Emma.

‘How people are, is how people feel about themselves. The most important relationship you can have in your life is the one you have with yourself, so giving yourself this time – whether it’s to step back from your busy day to look into yourself or to deal with a situation or difficult experience, is really just about investing in yourself. You are so worth it.

‘There are many beautiful meditations that can be downloaded, but the uniqueness of my sessions on Zoom is that they will be unscripted, it will be in the moment. It could be a guided visualization taking a trip to the beach, walking through a beautiful garden or sitting round a camp fire. It could be colours or a body scan. Meeting twice a week I hope will encourage people to keep up their own meditations in their own moments and help them find a calmer path and more joy in their lives,’ added Emma.

The  Zoom meditations will last about 20 to 30 minutes on a Thursday at 8pm and at 1pm on Tuesdays to fit in with time-zones around the world, people can sign up to a monthly membership for the re-set and refresh sessions.
