A charity is making it easier for communities to litter-pick by loaning out kit.
The GRAB Trust has come up with a Covid-safe way to get people started. Packs containing five litter pickers, a bucket and bin bags are available on loan from Oban Library.
‘A lot has changed in the world, some positive, some not so much. Sadly, litter being dropped and discarded in the environment continues. The influx of face masks and disposable gloves related to the COVID pandemic has highlighted how irresponsible mankind can be,’ said a GRAB Trust spokesperson.
Others though have been picking up litter on their walks and the GRAB Trust wants to help them keep up the good work.
‘The GRAB Trust Beaches and Marine Litter Project is COVID safe. We hope you will use this equipment to enjoy positive time outside helping fitness and well-being, make your community a nicer place to live and contribute to efforts to stop the flow of plastic into the environment,’ said the spokesperson.
People borrowing equipment will be asked to fill out a survey to monitor the scale of the single-use plastic problem and put pressure on businesses to look at their packaging.
