Plans to mothball Achaleven Primary School at Connel are recommended for approval today, Thursday June 10.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Community Services Committee will hear a report recommending the school shuts temporarily because it will have no pupils in August.

The report also recommends that next June the Community Services Committee reviews continuing to mothball it or starts consulting on future options, including permanent closure.

At the moment there are eight pupils at the school, four of them will move up to Oban High School in August, one family is leaving the area and families of the other three children have decided to send  them to Lochnell or Dunbeg Primary Schools.

All the staff have been deployed except the janitor who will stay on. The community can also keep using it for events.
