Make breakfast an act of self care
We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet it is sometimes overlooked because we are so busy with getting everyone out of the house in time for their day ahead.
This can elevate our stress levels which are already higher first thing in the morning.
So let’s think of how we can set ourselves up right for the day ahead and take back control of the morning routine.
Try setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier and avoid hitting the snooze button. This will get easier the more we do it. Choose a breakfast full of fibre like porridge oats, weetabix or shredded wheat with milk or yoghurt. This will keep us feeling fuller for longer which will help us avoid snacking later in the morning. It also helps the digestive system and reduces cholesterol.
After a night of sleep, our bodies are dehydrated. We all love our tea and coffee first thing, but why not save that for a few hours and it will feel like a treat. Instead, drink a big glass of water and if you like a hot drink, use your extra time to freshly squeeze an orange or lemon in hot water. This will give you a vitamin C boost early in the day, improve our immune system and help absorb iron.
Try these tips and enjoy your extra 10 minutes of calm before the chaos begins.
