Lochaber Yacht Club (LYC) is gradually coming out of Covid hibernation and getting back out on the water.

Saturday afternoon sailing had been introduced at the Achintore Road club in July 2020 after the first lockdown lifted and proved so popular they are doing it again this summer.

Last Saturday saw the best afternoon’s sailing in 2021 with four boats and crews enjoying the loch with a good breeze and some long-awaited sunshine.

Commodore Hamish Loudon said: ‘It was fantastic to see the club boats on the loch again, as well as new members who have joined recently.

‘We are keen as a club to encourage the community to become more active in learning to sail and this can be done in dinghies or larger keelboats.’

As always, the LYC safety boat team kept a close eye on the beginners and new members who were under instruction, while one of the lovely Soling class race boats was launched.

The club has a number of Solings they are hoping to launch in the next few weeks which will be visible on Loch Linnhe on a Monday evening. Local and visitor moorings along the shoreline are also filling up and two boats have already gone cruising north westwards.

‘Our social media and website have the most up-to-date information on the club or anyone interested can come down and speak to us on a Saturday afternoon,’ added Hamish.
