Fort William Football Club’s Under 13s enjoyed a return to competitive action and ran out 2-1 victors in a closely fought encounter against their Dingwall counterparts at Lochaber High School on Sunday afternoon.

In the first period, honours were even with Fort William enjoying the majority of possession. Chances were few and far between, however, with the hosts looking a little rusty following a long period of inactivity as a result of the Covid pandemic.

The second period started more brightly with the Fort William midfield finding their passing rhythm and creating several decent chances. The home defence also looked comfortable with Dingwall looking like their biggest threat may be from a breakaway goal.

In the third and final period, Fort made the breakthrough when a flighted corner from Jack Stephen fell kindly to Kayden Campbell who volleyed beautifully into the left hand corner of the net. A second soon followed in similar fashion. This time it was Lewis Luxton who pounced on the loose clearance to volley home expertly following a Jack Stephen corner.

Fort William looked comfortable at this stage, however, with two minutes remaining, the Fort goalkeeper Owen O’Hagan was finally beaten when a Dingwall midfielder scored a fine solo goal which made for an edgy last few minutes for the Fort players and coaching staff.

But Fort William saw the game out well and held on for a hard-fought and well-earned victory.

Everyone involved agreed it was fantastic to see the boys back in action. Well done to them all on a terrific result.
