At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.

To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

We value our content and access to our full site is only available with a  subscription. Your subscription entitles you to 7-day-a-week access to our website, plus a full digital copy of that week’s paper to read on your pc/mac or mobile device.  In addition, your subscription includes access to digital archive copies from 2006 onwards.

Just want to read one issue? No problem you can subscribe for just one week (or longer if you wish).

A surge of activity is taking place this week as sport and leisure services across Argyll begin to open up again.

Live Argyll opened their swimming pools and gyms on Monday, while Atlantis Leisure in Oban will open its gym, climb cube, sports hall and tennis and squash courts this Saturday.

The community-owned centre will announce opening dates for swimming, soft play and group fitness classes in due course.

Nick Wesley, general manager at Atlantis Leisure, said: ‘We are really excited that the team at Atlantis Leisure is getting ready to reopen our doors after more than four months of closure.

‘The returning activities are subject to the government restrictions that remain in place which means customers will need to adhere to the same protocols and precautions that Atlantis had in place prior to closure.’

Atlantis will be open Monday to Friday, 6.30am – 8.45pm and Saturdays, 10am – 4pm. Pre-booking is required for all available activities. These can be booked via atlantisleisure.co.uk, the iScuba app or by contacting reception staff on 01631 566800.

All activities will follow a schedule that allows for regular extra cleaning throughout each day. Customers are also encouraged to help staff by making use of the cleaning materials and sanitisation stations available to clean equipment after use.

In addition to the thorough cleaning schedule, Atlantis is once again undertaking a monthly electrostatic cleaning treatment which leaves surfaces sanitised for 28 days, allowing for conventional cleaning to continue as normal within that period.

‘This means we can ensure all surfaces throughout the centre are as safe as possible,’ added Nick.

‘Over the next few weeks, we will continue to upgrade various areas of the centre. We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Atlantis. See you soon.’

Live Argyll fitness classes will remain outdoors until Monday May 17, while swimming lessons will resume from Monday May 3.

Outdoor sports pitches are already open for full contact sports for younger people and adults will be able to use them from Monday May 17.
