The Sports Shop Oban has celebrated its tenth birthday.

The MacGregor Court business opened its doors on April 9 2011 and has doubled in size over the last decade.

To mark the occasion and to thank all its customers who have supported the shop, owner Billy Thomson has been giving away hundreds of pounds in vouchers.

Customers who shopped at the sports shop up until Monday April 19 were entered into a raffle to win 10 £50 vouchers.

A £100 voucher was also to be given to the person producing the oldest Sport Shop receipt from the last 10 years.

And The Sports Shop Oban will be handing out 10 £5 vouchers to every sports club in Oban. All they have to do is make contact by emailing thesportsshop-oban@btconnect.com.

Billy Thomson said: ‘Since we opened ten years ago, we have had a few ups and downs, but we have so far managed to get by and keep trading.

‘We have a great team here with Malcolm and Jonathan having been in the sports trade for many years. We have a very understanding and flexible landlord in David Finlayson and our accountants at R A Clements have been with us from day one. They have all kept us going.

‘Along with almost every other business in town, this last year has been very tough but thanks to the government support we have had throughout lockdown, we are confident we will still be here this time next year and beyond.

‘We are a big supporter of BID4Oban and their Love Oban and buy local promotions and hope we can rely on more people supporting their local shops now rather than adding to the coffers of already huge corporations, with no connection to the community.

‘On that note, we thank all our customers who have supported us over the last 10 years and look forward to being here for you for many years to come.’
