At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.
To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.
We value our content and access to our full site is only available with a subscription. Your subscription entitles you to 7-day-a-week access to our website, plus a full digital copy of that week’s paper to read on your pc/mac or mobile device. In addition, your subscription includes access to digital archive copies from 2006 onwards.
Just want to read one issue? No problem you can subscribe for just one week (or longer if you wish).
Lewis born social media sensation Coinneach MacLeod is getting ready for a stint in print.
Black and White will publish The Hebridean Baker: Recipes and Wee Stories from the Scottish Islands in September 2021 after the world rights to the TikTok sensation were acquired direct from the author by managing director Campbell Brown.
The Hebridean Baker has a global following and with nearly 10 million views of his recipe and lifestyle videos, he was recently featured in Elle Magazine.
Rose Minutaglio wrote: ‘Watching a dog-loving hot Scot bake bread is the ultimate antidote to these dark times.’
With wholesome, traditional Scottish recipes, stunning photography and a generous sprinkling of stories of island life and culture, The Hebridean Baker book
offers a true taste of the Outer Hebrides.
Focusing on small bakes that use a simple set of ingredients, these recipes will unleash your inner Scottish baker. It’s all about rustic, home baking and old family favourites because ‘homemade is always best’.
Coinneach, who is working with Harris Tweed Hebrides and the Isle of Harris Distillery in creating the book, said: ‘It’s been an amazing journey so far and so exciting that I’ll be able to share my favourite recipes, including many Hebridean and Highland bakes, as well as stories of the Scottish Islands, with everyone.’
Campbell Brown said: ‘Coinneach brings a fabulous Scottish island style to his baking, which is inspiring and delicious.
‘The team at Black and White fell in love with his unique voice, his passion and,
of course, his West Highland terrier Seòras. For bakers and anyone who loves Scotland, the Hebridean Baker’s book will be a real treat.’
Coinneach was born and raised on the Isle of Lewis and, inspired by traditional family recipes and homegrown produce, rose to fame as the Hebridean Baker on TikTok in 2020.
He has motivated his 130,000 worldwide followers to bake, forage, learn Gaelic, enjoy a dram or two of whisky and to seek a more wholesome, simple life. Along with his partner Peter and their Westie pup Seòras, Coinneach’s aim is to bring the best of the Scottish islands to a worldwide audience.
