At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.

To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

We value our content and access to our full site is only available with a  subscription. Your subscription entitles you to 7-day-a-week access to our website, plus a full digital copy of that week’s paper to read on your pc/mac or mobile device.  In addition, your subscription includes access to digital archive copies from 2006 onwards.

Just want to read one issue? No problem you can subscribe for just one week (or longer if you wish).

With more than 220 members, we work hard to create events and training sessions that will help all businesses, whatever their size and whatever their sector.

A great example of this is our upcoming ‘VUCA Masterclass – How to thrive in an uncertain and volatile world’ on Wednesday March 24. This is the third in our series of four free masterclasses based on our ‘One Lochaber’ accredited leadership course.

If you haven’t come across the term ‘VUCA’ before, it stands for: Volatile, Uncertain. Complex and Ambiguous’. Although coined well before the pandemic to describe an approach to helping leaders assess their best way forward, the training has become even more relevant now.

In the middle of a crisis like Covid-19, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by what’s happening. When the world feels volatile and uncertain, the lack of control we feel about the situation can cause us to experience feelings of being either frozen and unable to carry out our normal work or frazzled with so much going on we don’t know which way is up.

In next week’s interactive, 60-minute session we will use a unique model developed by psychologists at the University of Leeds to help us understand what’s happening to us and provide practical tips and advice on how you can manage yourself better in our VUCA world.

Along with expert presenters, a panel of local business leaders will discuss their approaches to dealing with a ‘volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous’ business world and bring it to life in the context of our business environment.

Our business panel comprises Sarah Riddle, Director, Northern Light Consulting; Oliver Stephen, Mill Manager at BSW Timber; and Caroline Gregory, owner of The Lovat Hotel. Our business panel come from diverse industries and have a wealth of experience to share.

The audience will also be asked to join in and share ideas in the chat box. After the event, all attendees will receive a copy of the slides and chat box notes as a resource for the future.

See the events section on ‘’ to book your free place to learn how to navigate your way through an uncertain business world…and come out smiling.
