At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. The Scottish Land Commission is continuing its calendar of public meetings online, with the next focused on the Highlands.

The Scottish Land Commission is holding an informal public meeting online to give people from the Highlands the opportunity to find out more about how their community can benefit from land reform.

The event is being held online on Wednesday December 16 at 7pm.

Chairman of the Scottish Land Commission, Andrew Thin, said: Land is at the heart of Scotland’s identity, economy and communities – so it matters that it is owned and used in a fair and productive way. We are keen to meet with communities to discuss the work we are doing to deliver change so that the ownership and use of land realises Scotland’s potential. There are many benefits it can bring to you and your community including transforming vacant and derelict land, community ownership, community engagement in decisions relating to land and unlocking opportunities through modernising land ownership.

‘We will be discussing our work over the next three years and also want to hear from you about land reform priorities for your community and the Highlands.

‘Although we are unable to host events in person at present due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, we are keen to continue speaking with as many as people as possible and using online meetings to make that happen. I would encourage everyone to attend, from the comfort of their own home, and make the most of the opportunity to discuss how we can make more of Scotland’s land for Scotland’s people.’
