Oban Art Society has disbanded after its top committee roles remained vacant.

As a result of no members stepping forward to fill the posts of chairman, vice chairman, treasurer and secretary, a special general meeting was called to decide the society’s fate.

The decision was taken to wind up the society with any group funds allocated to worthwhile art projects in the area who put in bids.

Remaining money was split equally between four schools to be used on artistic activities while assets, including exhibition boards, have been donated to The Rockfield Centre as has the society’s Alba Cup, a trophy sponsored by Graham Fraser of Alba Art supplies, so it can be used at future exhibitions and competitions.

Thanks were extended to former chairman Monika Smyth and the other chairpersons and committee members who have given their time over the years to the organisation.
