At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.

To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

We value our content and access to our full site is only available with a  subscription. Your subscription entitles you to 7-day-a-week access to our website, plus a full digital copy of that week’s paper to read on your pc/mac or mobile device.  In addition, your subscription includes access to digital archive copies from 2006 onwards.

Just want to read one issue? No problem you can subscribe for just one week (or longer if you wish).

Cha mhiste sgeul mhath aithris dà uair!  Gu cinnteach chan ann dà uair na mìle uair a thèid sgeul a’ gheama ball-coise eadar-nàiseanta ud aig Alba ann am Belgràd innse, thar iomadh bliadhna! Cha b’ urrainn dhan sgeulaiche a b’ fheàrr  farpais a dhealbh ’s a sgrìobhadh le barrachd boil-aighir, iomagain, agus sàr thoileachas aig deireadh cùise, agus b’ e tàmailt da-rìribh a bh’ ann gun d’ fhàg riaghailtean dìon bhon choròna-bhìoras nach robh e ceadaichte dha luchd-taice a bhith an làthair gus a’ bhuil eachdraidheil seo dha Alba fhaicinn.

Ach bu mhath gun robh cothrom againn an gèam fhaicinn air telebhisean agus chuala sinn beagan chlàraidhean fuaime gan cluich gus faireachadh taice a thoirt dha na cluicheadairean, agus ’s neònach gun cualas riamh roimhe ceathramhan den tionndadh aig Runrig air Loch Laomainn gan seinn an ìre mhath gun sgur fad còrr air dà uair a thìde! An dèidh dà bhliadhna air fhichead tha cothrom gu bhith againn sgioba Alba fhaicinn ann am farpais eadar-nàiseanta a-rithist, agus bidh an aon dùbhlan romhpa anns gach gèam!

Thug subhachas buil a’ bhuill-coise, agus a’ mhoit anns an sgioba, m’  inntinn gu na mìltean air an robh a’ mhòr-chuid againn a’ cuimhneachadh air an t-seachdain a chaidh is sinn a’ comharrachadh seachdad is còig bliadhna bho chrìochnaich an Dàrna Cogadh. Gun spèis sam bith àicheadh dhan sgioba spòrs bhuail e orm gun deach uimhir de dhaoine òga a chall is iad ri uchd bualaidh cogaidh a’ coileanadh gaisge nach tuigeadh ach neach a bha thall ‘s a chunnaic, agus nach d’ fhuair aithne riamh airson na rinn iad.  ’S math gu dearbh gun do thàrr uimhir às lem beatha agus gun d’ fhuair iad dhachaigh gun cuid theaghlaichean agus gu beatha “àbhaisteach” a-rithist.

Tha fianais air cho ain-deònach ‘s a bha, is a tha, mòran de na laoich sin gus bruidhinn air na chunnaic ’s na dh’fhuiling iad na dhearbhadh air cuimhneachain chràiteach a dh’iarradh iad a leigeil à cuimhne ach a tha tric nan tinneas inntinn leantainneach dhaibhsan a b’ fheudar a bhith an cogadh. Ged a tha feadhainn aca a dh’fhoillsicheas an cuid bhuinn-cuimhne cogaidh le moit, agus tha làn-chòir aca sin a dhèanamh, tha cuimhne gheur agam air mar a thuirt aon seann saighdear rium. “Cha do chuir mi orm riamh iad! Greadhnachas, airson a bhith a’ marbhadh co-chreutairean!”

Bu mhath an t-amas dhuinn uile a bhith a’ strì gus a bhith airidh air deagh chuimhne!

Scotland’s historic victory in Belgrade was sweeter still for Highland viewers given the starring role of local lad Ryan Christie! Euphoria in the wake of so much sadness during preceding days as we remembered the thousands sacrificed in wars, with so many known only to God where they lie.
