At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.

To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

We value our content and access to our full site is only available with a  subscription. Your subscription entitles you to 7-day-a-week access to our website, plus a full digital copy of that week’s paper to read on your pc/mac or mobile device.  In addition, your subscription includes access to digital archive copies from 2006 onwards.

Just want to read one issue? No problem you can subscribe for just one week (or longer if you wish).

Boxing Day could come early for many if they find a unique and useful gift under the tree this year.

Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club will shortly have fully washable and reusable face masks for sale bearing the club logo.

The club only commissioned a few of the specially-designed masks for the coaches, who have been using them since lockdown restrictions allowed the club to reopen, finding no problems with wearing them for several hours at a time while they oversee activities.

However, many of the members asked if they could also buy some for use in their everyday lives outside the gym, so now their wishes could be granted.

Within the next week or so the white masks with the red and black boxing club logo will be available at a price of £6.50, which will also help raise funds for the charity.

Coach Aidan Donnelly said: ‘So many people have been asking us where they can get one, but we haven’t had any available for sale before as we only bought enough for the coaches to use in the gym.

‘But now they will soon have the chance to buy the perfect Christmas present, which is both useful and shows an affiliation with the Club and their sport.’

In line with the most recent Covid regulations, members who are under 18 have been able to undertake some pad work and even spar when they are ready, which has proved very popular. Seniors still have to bide their time and look on with envy until regulations are relaxed further.

At least while they are waiting they can pull on some boxing gloves just by wearing a mask which will be available to members during training sessions at the gym and for others, details will be on the Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club Facebook page when they become available.
