At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.

BOA – Peacefully after an illness bravely borne, with her family by her side Lorna Boa, Dervaig, Isle of Mull, aged 73 years. Loving wife of Hugh, dear mother of Linda and Fiona. Much loved granny of James and Gemma, great-granny of Roni Lorna. Sadly missed.
CAMPBELL – Peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2020 at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, after a long illness patiently borne. Anne Elizabeth (née Beaton), aged 71 years, formerly of Ganavan. Beloved wife of the late Dr Brian Cameron Campbell, dear sister of Donald, Catriona and Iain and a devoted and much loved aunt and great-aunt of the extended family. Funeral private due to the current restrictions.
COLTHART – Peacefully, on September 28, 2020, following a short illness, Catriona (McColl). Beloved wife of the late Tommy, dear mum of Sheila and Fiona, and a much loved granny and great-granny.
HAWTHORNE – Peacefully surrounded with love at his home in Bowman Court Craignure, Jimmy, much loved and respected by family and friends, sadly passed away on September 23, 2020. Private funeral was held on October 7, 2020, within current restrictions. Grateful thanks to all staff at Bowman Court. Will be truly missed by those closest to him.
KETTLES – Sheena (née Parker). On September 30, 2020, peacefully at Linlithgow Care Home, aged 89. Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) and mother of Lesley and Alasdair. Much loved Gran of Nicola, Kirsten, Gill, Callum and Finlay.
LAVER – Jennie (née Henderson) (Edinburgh/Argyll). Peacefully, on Saturday, September 26, 2020, Jennie, beloved wife of the late Albert and loving mum to Judith, Janice and the late Jennifer. A cherished granny, great-granny and auntie. Private funeral due to current restrictions. Donations if desired can be made directly to the R.N.L.I.
MACDONALD – Maria Louise. Suddenly, following medical complications, at Queen Elizabeth hospital, Glasgow, on Thursday, October 1, 2020, Maria, of Cambuslang, passed away aged 32 years. Born November 28, 1987, Leamington Spa, Maria attended Torphichen Primary, Bathgate Academy, then Stirling University. A wildly respected accordion player previously living in Bathgate, France, Leeds, Maria is survived by fiancé Kenny and twenty month old daughter April. Beloved daughter to Fiona and Mik, sister to Richard, granddaughter to Robin MacDonald of Manor Cottage, niece to Anne and Scottie of Soroba, and cherished community member of the Isle of Lismore. A private funeral service will be held in Glasgow next week. Donations can be made to the UK Sepsis Trust.
MACVICAR – Peacefully at Etive House Care Home on September 30, 2020 Jean MacDonald MacVicar, in her 93rd year, latterly of 13 Croft Avenue, beloved wife of the late Archie, dear mum of Sine, Janet and Ian and much loved granny of Alastair, Fiona, Sarah, Shona and Graeme. Private funeral following government guidelines at Oban Parish Church thereafter to Pennyfuir Cemetery.
BELL – Fraser and family would like to thank all relatives, friends and neighbours for the kind expressions of sympathy including cards, letters and flowers following the death of Sandra. Also for the amazing turn out of villagers on the A83. Thanks also to Rev. Robert MacLeod for his words of comfort at the graveside. The collection for Parkinson’s UK raised the sum of £300.
