After news that nationwide builders merchants Travis Perkins was looking at possibly closing as many as 165 of its branches across the UK due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the company’s regional director for North Scotland says the store in Fort William will not be among them.

Jim Downie contacted the Lochaber Times to give the assurance after we quoted the company as saying that it was still too early to comment on whether the Fort William branch on the Ben Nevis Industrial Estate would be included in the 165 at risk.

Mr Downie told us: ‘ I read your article in the Oban Times (sic) and just wanted to confirm that our Fort William branch will not close.’
