Our photographer captured this atmospheric black and white image of the famous Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge, just ahead of the recent VE Day 75th anniversary celebrations recently.

The Category A listed monument is dedicated to the men of the original British commando forces raised during the Second World war and overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle.

The monument was designed by Scott Sutherland and unveiled in 1952 by the Queen Motherand. It is one of Scotland’s best-known landmarks, with views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mòr. Photograph: Iain Ferguson, The Write Image.
